New Features in Deathloop: What’s Changed & What to Expect

Well well, what do the owners of Arcane studio have prepared for us this time? Let's dive in the pack of new features!

Deathloop, developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda, has always stood out as a stylish first-person shooter with an inventive time-loop mechanic. Since launch, the developers have pushed several major updates—adding new gameplay features, quality-of-life improvements, and accessibility options. In particular, the Goldenloop update and Game Update 3 introduced features players have been asking for. Let’s dive into what’s new, how it enriches the experience, and why Deathloop remains relevant and exciting.

What Is Deathloop (Refresher)

Before going into new content, a quick reminder: Deathloop places you on the mysterious island of Blackreef. You play as Colt, an assassin trapped in a loop. To break the loop, you must eliminate eight targets (the Visionaries) before midnight. Each time you fail, the loop resets, but your knowledge carries over. Meanwhile, Julianna (controlled by either AI or another player) works to protect the loop. The game mixes action, stealth, experimental powers, and branching paths.

Game Update 3: Photo Mode, Accessibility & Quality Enhancements

Beyond Goldenloop, Deathloop’s Game Update 3 also added features that broaden appeal and improve user comfort:

  • Photo Mode: A powerful, creative mode for capturing the game’s beauty. Filters, stickers, diverse poses, camera customizations, outfit and weapon changes, even swapping between Colt and Julianna in single-player. Perfect for those who enjoy exploring the visuals of Blackreef. The Gamer+3Gematsu+3PlayStation.Blog+3
  • Accessibility Options: Over 30 improvements. Players can now adjust many gameplay elements: combat difficulty, number of Reprises (how many times you can be resurrected in a location), game speed slowdowns. UI / HUD / subtitle tweaks (size, opacity, color), menu navigation improvements, etc. This broadens accessibility for players with different preferences or needs. Player One+3GamesRadar++3Gameranx+3
  • PS5 Avatars: New avatars featuring Colt, Julianna, and Visionaries to dress up profiles on PS5. A smaller perk but appreciated by fans.

Quality-of-Life Changes & Visual Adjustments

  • Field of View (FOV) & Motion-Blur Options on PS5: These settings, which were once PC-only, now allow PS5 players more control over visual comfort (especially helpful for motion sickness). NME
  • Improved NPC Reactions: NPCs now react more realistically to environmental stimuli—gunfire nearby, bullets passing them, hearing footsteps, etc. The world feels more alive and dangerous.

Why These Changes Matter

These updates do more than just add content—they improve experience in meaningful ways:

  1. Replayability Increased: New weapon, powers, enemies, and an alternate ending give players reasons to revisit loops with different strategies.
  2. More Accessibility Means More Players: By making the game customizable, Deathloop becomes more inclusive. Players with different skill levels or needs can enjoy without unnecessary barriers.
  3. Stronger Visual Identity & Community Creativity: Photo Mode taps into players’ desire to capture and share, building community content and appreciation for the game’s art direction.
  4. Cross-Play & Cross-Save Offer Flexibility: Many players game across devices—having flexibility enhances satisfaction and retention.
